Best Job to Have in College

The best job to have in college truly differs from person to person. So, this post may be everywhere. But only because everything is different for everyone, and it all depends on where you are trying to go in your future. So like I said, the best job to have in college differs from person to person. The path I took in school most likely will be COMPLETELY different from your path. And that is totally ok! Honestly, if I could go back in time, I would probably do it a little differently myself.

Best Job

I went to school in a small town, and there was not a lot there. However, I was employed throughout my collegiate years. One of my goals was to make money and not to constantly ask my parents for money every week. I wanted a little sense of independence. My major was marketing, and I should’ve interned or worked in marketing departments or firms, but I did not know that at the time. That is why I am here always writing to you all about the do’s and don’t’s (can I spell don’t(s) like that?) of college life. The best job, in my opinion, is the job you see yourself doing for a while and happy doing it. The job you can see a future and growth in. You should not go to work wishing you were never there or hating being there. Throughout your life you will spend more time at work than at home, especially if you have a 40+ hour work week, so why not try to enjoy your time there?

Remember, a job is just-over-broke. Focus on getting a career.

From serving, I learned how to make conversation. You may think well that’s easy; it actually is not. When you are in a customer based business, you have to learn how to appeal to your audience. I also learned how not to be as shy (I am naturally shy, believe it or not). Growing a connection with your guest is a true success in the business role because that should truly be one of your goals; a customer relationship that will provide you with loyalty. That works for any business you are in, and I learned that from working in a restaurant.

Ok, you got my background information, I know you are ready for the best job to have (in college). Here it goes!

Looking for a quick buck or you are undecided about your future (which is ok) serve/bartend!

I did it, and honestly, I would never take it back. If you have read my (personal) blog post, you are probably familiar with me talking about my Logan’s family! They were my core group in college, and I honestly do not think I would have made it without them. Serving teaches you a lot whether you know it or not.

Now college students, from my experience, my managers were completely flexible with my schedule. Whether it was the days, I needed off for school or holiday break; I never had a conflicting schedule when it mattered the most. Not saying they were perfect because no one is perfect, but that has to be one of the most chill, convenient, beneficial jobs, ever. Think about it, you walk out with money daily, and you get a discount on food which helps all college kids.

Maybe I am biased because I had such an amazing group working with me from the cooks to servers to bartenders. I really enjoyed my time there. It is the best job for a college student who wants to make cash every day (it seriously is the best). I think it is a good idea, even if it is just part-time (serving once or twice a week). Anything (extra cash) counts! You know I do have a great article about saving money in college, you should definitely read it after your done with this post.

Next up, the “I know what I want” college student.

Ok perfect, you know what you want in your future, so now you are ahead. Use that to gain work experience! My best advice to you is to find something that is in your field. Whether it is marketing, nursing, accounting, financing, management, ANYTHING!

For example, your major is hotel management, contact your local hotels. Let them know your goals and aspirations (do it in person, people are quick to dismiss you over the phone). Show up with your best-dressed outfit, for more on how to dress for an interview click here, have your well-polished resume handy (with a cover letter), be determined to get an internship or the job. Adults love to see a young person who is serious about their future and a true go-getter!

Now, we have the “I think I know what I want to do, but it could change” college student.

And that my friends is ok, you have time to change your mind and do what you feel is right. Get an internship for whatever it is you think you want to do, just to be on the safe side. You will gather incredible experience that way, and I guarantee it will help you in the long run; whether you want to do that job or not. People change career paths all the time even when you are older!

I know I know, this post is a little shorter than normal. However, I really wanted to be straight to the point with you all! Hopefully, this helps all of my college kids understand what jobs to be on the lookout for their future careers. Your future is beyond important, and I hope to give you all the tools to help you succeed!

So, here is another cool post, listing different jobs you can have while in college.

Remember companies nowadays want everyone to have experience, and this will get you in the door.

Work experience is key!
