It’s July! My first blog post of July and boy have I been BUSY! Not too busy to write a new blog post, though, priorities people! A few months ago, I wrote a blog post titled: Not Following the Status Quo as a Millennial. If you haven’t checked out that post (yet), I recommend you do! It goes hand and hand with the statement “not give into society.”
Within that post, I shared with you all the different ways that millennials are now making an income, and it is definitely not the standard 9-5 or what society trains you to do throughout your first years.
Today, I am sharing with you something similar but different.
Do you ever think about what we teach our kids:
- go to school
- do as told (with limited questions)
- get a 9-5 job (that is known as a good job)
- get good benefits
Sometimes, I feel we tell our kids to follow their dreams but with limitations. I know you are probably thinking, Terrah, what do you mean to follow your dreams with limitations?
I am a blogger, social media strategist, and freelancer. Many people will get confused when I tell them my dreams because it is to be my own boss by creating an online empire.
My dreams are something that the older members of society may not all understand, but that does not mean that I change my desires to fit the hopes of people who do not live my life. 2019, I truly decided to break free from society’s expectations on how to leave my life.
If you are different and you want to create your own lifestyle and the typical 9-5 is not for you, I get it. I am the same way!

Friends, I am going to tell you how to live your dreams and not give into society
What do you want to do?
If your dream is to be your own boss, a doctor, in law enforcement, a politician, a CEO, whatever it is that’s awesome!
That is the first step, figuring out what you want to do. If you are unsure…just take time and write down things you are passionate about.
Once you have it written down, pick what you wouldn’t mind doing while making money.
Fun Fact: if you are doing something you love, it is like you are never working a day in your life
How do you get there?
Is there truly such a thing as an overnight success? Mhmm, not sure, but I do not recommend you have that mindset.
Real success does not happen overnight. It takes hard work and preparation. Are you willing to put in the work? Are you hungry enough?
Everyone has heard the famous quote by Eric Thomas, “When you want to succeed as bad as you want to breathe, then you will be successful.”
You should take that quote and let it resonate with you.
Do your research!
Who is someone that you can follow online and/or mentor that is where you’d like to be? Try to get inspiration from there; see how they carry themselves.
I am not telling you to be a copycat! No, be authentic, but you can always get inspiration.
Afterwards, come up with a plan (action plan) of what you need to do to get there.
Don’t Give Up
I told you what to do to get started. However, depending on what you want to do with your career, your path may be different.
One thing I want to tell you is to break free from society. Don’t worry about what others will think about the journey you wish to take. Make your moves in silence! They’ll see you shine, friend!
There is a promise YOU HAVE TO MAKE.
Do not give up on your dream because it is not happening as quickly as you want. It may not be on your time but on God’s time. Everything happens for a reason, and at times we may not understand it.
Join me in taking risks and living our dreams and do not give into society!
